Introduction

When it comes to shifting your Vanagon, you don’t want to skimp on quality. Out-of-tolerance parts quickly contribute to vague shifter feel, or worse yet no shifting at all. The driver is a long distance from the transaxle, so every component in the system plays a critical role in smooth and predictable shifts.

We have tested several low-cost aftermarket shift lever arms, and they don’t fit on the splined shifter shaft as precisely as the genuine Volkswagen article, so we do not stock them.* Sure, you can get a super-cheap reproduction for less than half of this one, but trust us when we say the extra cost of this VW part is money very well spent.

*We manufactured our own stainless steel version of this part to exact OEM specs, and that is the part you will receive if you order our Shifter Fix Kit or Shifter System Overhaul Bundle. Once the GW part is out of stock, we will be switching to the Genuine VW part for all our kits and bundles.
